Accountability Accountability is vital in early recovery. Once a treatment or rehab program has been completed, accountability is a necessary tool to remain sober while learning to use new and sober coping mechanisms. Without accountability many go right back to drug and alcohol use after treatment. Lighthouse offers accountability in the following six main areas: 1. Sobriety – we screen for drug use regularly and randomly test using urine analysis (UA’s), breathalyzer analysis (BA’s), as well as saliva testing (oral swabs.) All drug test specimens are collected under direct supervision of staff. It is our belief that random and regular drug testing is necessary to ensure all participants remain sober and do not become a trigger for others. We do not believe that drug testing only upon suspicion is a reliable practice in a sober living environment. 2. Weekly Meetings – every week each Participant is expected to attend meetings. A weekly meeting sheet with signatures from the meeting leader/chair is turned in and is reviewed by staff for accountability. The purpose of weekly meeting attendance is three-fold: i. To establish a routine and To build sober friendships/community ii. To help keep a positive mindset iii. To establish a foundation on which begin to build a real life upon (The house built on sand and the house built on bedrock both looked the same until the storm came!) 3. Chores – each Participant is assigned a daily chore. Upon completion of the chore, an electronic chore slip is submitted including the day and time the chore was completed. Staff then verifies the chore slip. Participants do chores for three reasons: i. To foster a sense of ownership in “your house.” ii. To develop life skills that are necessary for a sober future. iii. To keep costs down so that we can keep our fees as low as possible. 4. Curfew –The reason for a curfew is because nothing good happens after dark , and accountability for coming home at night is often necessary in early recovery. 5. Working a Job – Participants are expected to obtain and maintain a full- time job. Should a Participant enter the program without a job, he will be held accountable for a job search until he begins working. The deadline to obtain a job is 30 days after entering the program. 6. Payment of Fees – Monthly program fees must be paid in full and on time. We have a very strict no pay, no stay policy. When Participants have “skin in the game” their chance of success greatly increases.
